When I began working after graduation, I was receiving about $530 a month. I had to set up a savings goal towards investment on the Nigerian Stock Exchange just to cushion what I was being paid monthly. Some of my colleagues felt it was too small an amount to save. I never thought so and I began to save 50% of this amount. Though I do not earn this amount anymore, sometimes I have to congratulate myself on taking the decision to start small. Great Post

[...] Matt over at One Million and Beyond has written posts lately that have struck home with me. The importance of being frugal but not being cheap is something I try to remember. It’s important to enjoy spending money on little luxuries sometimes without guilt. My trip to Washington last week was a perfect example. I could regret spending the $500, but that trip did so much to put me in a better frame of mind. Matt’s post “Think Small — the Pieces Add Up” is the counterweight to the “important luxuries” mentality. At $4.50 per day, my Starbucks fix will add up to the price of my trip to Washington sometime in about 4 months. I hereby resolve to use the 50 cent coffee vending machine for the rest of the year.
