Weekly Budget - Week 2 (June 2 - 8)

By Matt - Sunday, June 1st, 2008

This is the second weekly budget that I’m putting together. I had a look at the previous week’s results and I have to say that I’m quite impressed with the end result. I think that with a little bit of effort I should be able to meet similar numbers. I’ll post an assessment of my last week’s spending tomorrow. Below is my planned budget for this upcoming week.

Weekly Budget
June 2 - 8
Budget Actual
Alcohol $20.00
Food-Lunch $20.00
Food $120.00
Gas $35.00
Entertainment $50.00
Smokes $25.00
Misc $40.00
Transportation $125.00

A couple items on the list are changed lower, most notably the Alcohol and Misc spending. I’m expecting that I’ll be able to bring these lower with a bit of effort. I’ve kept the Lunch spending at the same level for this week mostly because I want to get into the habit of bringing my lunch. The allocated $20 should let me grab lunch out 3 times if I’m careful. I’ve allocated a bit more for food because we didn’t buy any groceries for the upcoming week and I’m expecting there will be some extra spending. The one main item that I know will go up this week is my transportation spending. This is because my monthly parking costs are coming in.

Overall I believe that this budget is achievable. Don’t forget to drop a comment on this post or the contest announcement post from yesterday to be considered for the weekly budget contest. Wish me luck!

I’m sure you get this comment a lot, but I can’t believe you spend $100/month on cigarettes. I actually cut back on my drinking (and nights out) when I saw how much I spent….

The biggest reason I spend a lot on smokes is that they’re taxed very heavily and a small pack (20 smokes) costs $8 and often more. I smoke between 5 and 10 a day which simply adds up to close to that magic $100 a month. I am prepping myself to quit because I simply don’t enjoy it and can’t afford it.

You should put another row for total expenditure. Do we have an extra entry in each week’s draw if we were to post a link to your contest post?
