Week 15 Budget Assessment

By Matt - Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I finally had a chance to go through last weeks expenses and as it turns out that my expenses were not as I had expected them not by a long shot. I ended up being below budget but that’s because I didn’t replace my cracked windshield as planned which means that had I gotten to it I would have been grossly over budget. Here are the numbers from last week:

Weekly Budget
Sept 1-7
Budget Actual
Alcohol $25.00 $39.96
Food-Lunch $20.00 $24.94
Food $80.00 $40.00
Gas $45.00 $60.00
Entertainment $0.00 $0.00
Smokes $25.00 $16.90
Misc $40.00 $181.17
Transportation $325.00 $115.00
Stupid $0.00 $5.00
Total $560.00 $482.96

Spent more in most of the categories but this was kept in check by the fact that I didn’t spend nearly as much as I was expecting on the car. I didn’t end up getting the windshield as I was expecting what I did end up spending a fair amount of money on was a lot of house stuff for fixing up the walls in the basement.

There ended up being a fair amount of driving for me this week and that translated into more gas costs than I was expecting. This was nicely tempered by the fact that I didn’t spend nearly as much on food. I was a bit lazy this week in that I didn’t bring lunch with me at all and this drove my lunch costs up.

Overall I have to say that I’m a little disappointed with the results from this week because although I was expecting to spend a lot of money I wasn’t expecting there to be this much spending. Had I ended up spending money on the windshield then I would have been grossly over my budget.
