My accountant says, "Whenever you make a discretionary purchase you should have an idea how you can use it to make a profit and how you can write it off."

I always wait until I can figure out a way to have it help me increase my business. Since you will be using that cool little machine for some upcoming projects, it sounds like you've thought it through also.

You know, what's money worth if you can't spend it in things you will enjoy? Besides this was a wise decision, you bought something you will be using a lot and you know you won't change or replace it for a very long time.

A savings fund for entertainment is just as wise as an emergency fund. It will definitely save on a therapist for being depressed for just buying sale beans and toiletries (just and example).

I saved for a PlayStation Portable, and though I paid a lot of money I do enjoy it. Besides, paying in cash definitely saves a lot of money. If I had bought it in payments I would have paid twice its value!

Enjoy your mini laptop to the fullest ;)

yep...recently (September 2009) bought a 50" Plasma TV with Blu-Ray disc.
Saved and waited. Since 1997 (Jan) when my last TV died.

you realise that at 25% interest, you are paying >$3000 in interest to your bank every year? That's how much my TV was.

You could have used the work pc for personal...just need a jump drive to hold your data. $20 would have paid that.
